Republican lawmakers in Indiana announced Thursday that they would amend the language of a controversial state law widely criticized in recent days for allowing discrimination against lesbians, gays and transgender people.
The amendment to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act spells out that business owners cannot refuse to provide services and goods on the basis on race, religion, age, sexual orientation or gender identity, among other things.
"The message is clear today," said Brian Bosma, speaker of the Indiana House, in announcing the changes. "Indiana is open for business. We welcome everyone. We discriminate against no one." Read more...
