This might sound confusing, but bear with us. OnePlus, which originally launched its OnePlus One smartphone in April 2014 as an invite-only device, is now making it available without an invite. However, the just-announced OnePlus 2 — yes, the One is spelled with letters and the 2 as a number — will be available only with an invite when it launches later this year
The bottom line: You can get the OnePlus One now without an invite, but you'll need an invite to get the OnePlus 2 when it debuts in the third quarter.
The One, marketed by OnePlus as a "flagship killer," runs the CyanogenMod OS, which is based on Android. The phone had touted top-notch specifications for a price of $299 — without a contract but with limited availability.
