Prison radicalisation in England is growing 'by the day'

LONDON — Islamic radicalisation in England's prisons is getting worse, according to Chris Phillips, former head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office.


The problem, Phillips said, is caused by a number of factors that include a growing prison population, a shortage of staff and insufficient monitoring.



"We have less officers generally in prisons than ever before and we also have less police officers to deal with them," he told the BBC. "So what we have is a growing haystack of extremists where we still have to find the single needle that's going to go off and do something really nasty." Read more...
