Indonesian man survives hour-long flight by clinging to landing gear

A man snuck onto an aircraft's landing gear to stow away on an hour-long flight to Jakarta, Indonesia


Mario Steven Ambarita, 21, told authorities he had spent a year planning how to sneak on to the plane. He was discovered when the Garuda flight landed.



"He really put his safety in danger," said Suprasetyo, director general of Indonesia's air transport ministry. "But his condition is now fine."


Although the flight was short, the Boeing 737-800 jet could have flown as high as 34,000 feet, where air is thin and temperatures are below freezing. Ambarita had some injuries, but was able to walk upon landing, a Garuda spokesperson told The Jakarta Post . Read more...
