Dozens Reported Dead After Russian Trawler Sinks In Northern Pacific Ocean

Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said 132 people were on board the trawler, which sank in the Sea of Okhotsk. According to reports, at least 43 people have died.

A trawler sank early Thursday local time in the Sea of Okhotsk, according to Russia's emergency response ministry, potentially leaving dozens dead.


According to RT, 43 people were confirmed to have died, and 63 others had been rescued. More than 20 remained unaccounted for.


Russian authorities said the freezer trawler sank off the coast of Kamchatka, and nearby fishing boats were the first to start rescue attempts. It sank in about 15 minutes, RT reported, and the cause remained under investigation.
