Egyptian Forces Killed 12 Tourists During An Anti-Terrorism Operation

Egypt’s Ministry of the Interior announced Monday the deadly shooting of 12 people who were part of a group of tourists from Mexico.

Egyptian police and military opened fire on four SUVs of a tourist group, leaving 12 dead and 10 injured, the Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday.

The SUVs contained Egyptians and Mexican tourists, according to authorities. The military and police officers had been pursuing terrorists in the Wahat area of the Western Desert and mistakenly fired on the tourist convoy, authorities said.

The shooting and why the tourists were in the area is under investigation, authorities said.
