A man under 24-hour surveillance by a terrorism task force was fatally shot Tuesday in Boston after investigators stopped him for questioning, authorities said.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters that Usaama Rahim, 26, lunged at members of a joint terrorism task force with what authorities described as a military-style knife, the Associated Press reported. The investigators had approached Rahim to question him about "terrorist-related information," Evans said.

Rahim's brother on Tuesday said he had been waiting for a bus to go to work when officers approached him.

"He was confronted by three Boston Police officers and subsequently shot in the back three times," Ibrahim Rahim wrote on Facebook.

His brother had also called their father as a witness as police approached, Ibrahim Rahim added.

"His last words to my father who heard the shots were: I can't breathe!" Rahim wrote.

Usaama Rahim was struck once in the torso and once in the abdomen, the AP reported. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
