Author Berkeley Breathed announced he’d be creating new strips of the beloved 1980s comic.
Comic author Berkeley Breathed announced Sunday he'd be taking readers back to Bloom County, the 1980s comic strip that explored politics and culture through the humorous exploits of a small town.
"A return after 25 years. Feels like going home," Breathed wrote.
In Breathed's Facebook announcement, pictured above, the outline of his character Opus was taking shape.
Opus, one of the residents of Bloom County, later went on to appear in his own comic strip, which ran until 2008.
With its cast of human residents and talking animals, Bloom County was known for its playful takes on American politics.
In 1987 Breathed won a Pulitzer Prize for the strip, which continued to run until 1989.
