Tornado watches were issued for about 50 counties in Texas, where at least one damaged several homes in Cisco on Saturday. A tornado also struck South Dakota on Sunday, leaving widespread damage.
Cisco Fire Chief Walter Fairbanks also told BuzzFeed News there was one person killed in the storm.
Three others were injured when the twister touched down, including one critically, said Phillip Truitt of the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Heavy rain and hail were continuing to fall Saturday night hours after the tornado hit, but officials were inspecting the area assessing the damage, he told BuzzFeed News.
Several trees and power lines were also downed in the area, he said.
Despite the damage, there were no immediate reports of unaccounted people in the area, Truitt said.
"It's a fluid situation," he said.
Authorities were going house to house Saturday evening assessing the damage, Eastland County Judge Rex Fields told the Associated Press.
